ESL114 ASSIGNMENT ,What do I think about the amount of violence on T.V.?

Television can be a powerful influence in developing value systems and shaping behavior. Unfortunately, much of today's television programming is violent. Hundreds of studies of the effects of TV violence on children and teenagers have found that children may become "immune" or numb to the horror of violence, may gradually accept violence as a way to solve problems, may imitate the violence they observe on TV and finally cause some crimes.

Extensive viewing of television violence by children causes apathy. Children will no longer think that the violence on television program is “terrible”, because they immune it. These children will be less sympathetic than ever and will be more aggressive than ever. It is terrible that children in this society lost sympathy and love, instead, obtain more hate and aggressiveness. They will be more self-centered and will have less social responsibility when they grow up.

Furthermore, children who immune the horror of violence will gradually accept violence as a “normal” activity to solve problems. In TV, violence often comes when two individual of organizations have some problem to solve. Let’s take the well-known movie 007 for example, James bond, who killed numerous bad guys violently, have to do some assignment to save the world. Children will think that James is really cool and find that violence can be a way to solve problems. So, when these kids met some problems, say have a quarrel with their classmate, in real life, they may consider to use violence to solve the problem.

To get things worse, children will imitate the violence observed in TV because of several reasons. One reason is they thought that the violence observed in TV program is really cool. Cool things should be imitated, so they just imitate “cool things” in their real life. The other reason is that they cannot make difference between the unrealistic scenario in TV program and real life. For example, most of the children know that they can relive after they are killed in TV video games, but some of them don’t know they can not let the victims relive after they kill the victims in the real life. So there are more and more crimes recently. We really have to prevent this crimes by reduce the violence in TV programs.

To conclude, the impact of TV violence is tremendous and terrible. Government should limit the violence in television and video games in order to give a pure environment let children to grow up.

Introduction for myself for ESL

Hello everyone, I am Rui Cheng from China. I am an international freshmen in Division of General Studies Department of university of illinois, urbaba-champaign. Though I haven't got a spercific major right now, I have an idea for my prospective major which is accountancy. So, I register for macroeconomics, calculus and statistics course in my first semester and hopefully I will have a high GPA.

Let's talk about my hometown and my family.
My hometown Shenzhen, a metropolitan city south to Hongkong, is one of the most prosperous city in China. It's famous of it's prosperity(such as shopping malls, theme parks) and its good weather--the temperature in shenzhen's winter is as worm as the temperature in illinois' summer. No doubt, I don't like the weather here, illinois.

My family is composed of my parents and me. I have neither brothers nor sisters due to the"one child policy". Both my parents are general managers. They have strong ability and are really hardworking. I want to be a succesfull person just like my parents in the future. That's why I come to United States, where the quality of education is better than any other countries, to study during my college life.

Well, at the end, I wish everyone enjoy his or her college life in US and hopefully everyone will have a promised future~!
